Comments: this board has so many good reviews.and that's the only reason why i purchased it.to see how good this is with corsair xms rams. Paired with 3200 ddr400 xms twins and xp3000.this thing would not even turn on the monitor.changed monitor 3 times thinking that it monitors fault.changed video card twice, changed ram to kingston.tried another CPU from my other COM.nothing.nothing.black screen is all i'm seeing on the monitor. So i tried ASUS RMA which did not do anything other than take a looking at the board and saying 'nothing wrong with your board'. Hmmm.nothing wrong with board??? Then what other component is there to be wrong??? I probably received a bad board but this is everyone's worst nightmare.getting a DOA board.
And i can see a lot more people have same problem like mine. Buyer beware and good luck! Comments: I am running this MOBO with an AMD Sempron 2400, 1 gb RAM, 80 gb HDD, 256 mb Video, NEC dual-layer DVD burner, and a 3.5' floppy. I still have tons of room to expand and the MOBO was nice and easy to work with. I had to download some drivers from the asus support site b.c Win XP does not recognize SATA 150 HDD but that is not the MOBO issue. Everything plugged in easily and it cranked up the first time.

I had the exact same problem where my OS (windows XP Pro) would not recognize my network cable as being connected to either 3Com or Nvidia LAN Connector. Well after about a million trial and error situations this is what worked for ME:- NOTE Download the 2.03 drivers before you begin doing the following /NOTE 1.) Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Nvidia NForce Drivers (remove them) 2.) Extract the drivers you download (do not double click them, just right-click and extract using WinZIP or WinRAR to a directory of your choice). 3.) Restart your computer. 4.) Once it has restarted it may ask you to restart again because it will re-find everything.
If it does find stuff and ask you to install the drivers hit CANCEL. 5.) After it's sitting in windows, go to Control Panel - System - Device Manager, and in there double click your network 'cards' and click update driver. 6.) Select the second option (Install from a list or specific location (ADVANCED) IIRC) 7.) Then select the first bullet and blick browse. 8.) find your directory and go to the drivers for the network cards (the ok button will be greyed out until it finds a.inf file in the directory you select).
9.) Let it update it. 10.) Run the installer as before and everything should be fine. Now remember this is tedious and cumbersome but it worked for me and it may not work for you. Just giving you my.02 nK. That's weird. It worked for me after that. Ok what type of internet connection do you have because you may need to tell windows what 'type' of internet connection you have.
Lan Drivers For Pc
By this I mean the following: (I have a constant connection with DSL i.e. No username or password and the following is what i did).
1.) Internet Explorer - Tools - Internet Options. 2.) Click on the connections tab and then select Setup.
3.) Click next and then Connect to the Internet. 4.) On the next screen select Configure my internet connection manually. 5.) On this page you should now have the following IIRC.
A.) connect using a dial-up modem b.) connect using broadband (username and password) c.) connect using broadband ( without username and password). (This is the connection type I have so i selected it.) 6.) If you have the same type of connection as mine it should setup and MAYBE ask you to restart. If not then just follow the on-screen instructions and you should be set to go.
Again this is what worked for me so take it with a grain of salt k. BTW the drivers I was talking about were the 2.03 Drivers from the NVIDIA site. I have tried it with and without the extra nic. The only difference it that with the extra nic i could internet (via de extra nic). So without changing the configuration it worked (only driver for extra nic). If i remove the extra nic that internet is gone again.
The funny thing is that i already have such a mobo up and running without any problems. It is a small home network with 1 gaway and one other computer. I had last week another one which worked fine too. I used the xp diskette for configuration of the network but it did not help for the onboard nic.
I have flashed the bios (1005) used the latest drivers from nvidia and asus but noth did not work. I have send the mobo back to the shop but the send it back because it worked fine with them and they cannot find anything wrong. So this afternoon i did a fresh install of windows xp but still no luck. I also tried pinging but nothing to ping. My other two computers do not see the it too in my network.
All is connected to a 4 port hub. So when you plug in the ethernet cable, XP stops saying 'cable is unplugged'? Do you get link lights on the hub/switch? Do you get link lights on the NIC port itself? Have you tried forcing the NIC to 10/half or 100/half to see if it will connect at a lower speed? Maybe it's flaky autonegotiation.
Have you flashed the bios at all? The nForce (1 and 2) boards MUST be flashed with a specific version of the award flash app. (it is usually packaged along with the new bios files.) if you flash with the wrong app, you can theoretically blow away the 'firewire GUID' (used for networking over firewire) and the NIC's MAC address. What do you get when you type 'ipconfig /all' at the dos prompt? Yup, cable unplugged message goes away. Yup, I get the nice green lights at the hub. Just no internet.
I have not tried flashing the BIOs the way you suggest. I've never heard of that type of flashing. I just use the jumper and remove the battery. I'll check the config thing when I get home.
Also, how do I force change the NIC? Shouldn't this be just plug a play so to speak? I've already ordered another replacement board and will RMA this one when it gets in. I wonder if it was a bad batch of boards or something. Thanks for your help! I do not have the deluxe version so no 3com onboard nic for me.
I myself flashed with the asus tool which was the latest version of it. So i have the right bios. I also see green lights at the hub but i too see no internet or local network.
This computer is not seen by the other two computers either. I also have ordered another nic to solve the problem. The shop does not want to take this board back because they could not replicate the problem.
It even more bad because i am building this system for somebody else. This is a problem with multiple NICs. Go to: Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Advanced - Advanced Settings You'll then be presented with a list of adapters and connections listed in the order that networks services attempt to use them. The NIC you intend to use for internet access must be listed first. If another connection or NIC is listed first, applications will attempt to use network sevices through it instead of the one you want.
Re-order the list till you get what you want. If you can't figure it out, grab a screenshot of the advanced settings window so we can see what its contents are. I fixed this problem. I realized what I had been doing wrong, I had been following the installation CD instructions.
I was simply inserting the ASUS Utility / Driver CD and running the 3Com installation process. What I needed to do was go into the device manager and select update driver and point to the CD. This is the same crap that I had to do when the NVIDIA GF4 series came out, except the instructions actually told you to go through the device manager. Anyway, I hope my experience will help others. Now I can remove my PCI NIC card and free up some air.
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. I know one of you suggested the control panel route coupled with the downloaded drivers, but in the end I had to use the drivers on the CD.
